Steer Davies Gleave is pleased to have helped develop the One North report which was launched today.
The One North report was produced for an alliance of five cities in the north of England, comprising Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield. The report presents a proposition for an interconnected north, with improved road and rail connections. The region has a combined population of 15 million, which is equivalent to the population of Holland, however it has not been performing as well as it could economically. The One North report presents a £15bn transport plan designed to address poor connectivity across the region and drive economic growth.
George Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, presented the report at its launch in Manchester today and said, "this is an important moment. The One North is an excellent report and the money [£15bn] will be found."
Sir David Higgins, Chair of HS2 Ltd, also at the presentation said, "This report is warmly welcomed. We haven't previously seen this degree of unanimity and we're looking forward to working with the cities across the north of England.”
