The Transport Practitioners Meeting (TPM) is an annual event for UK transport planners, now in its 13th year. Steer Davies Gleave regularly contributes to the sharing of ideas and experience at this event and 2015 is no exception.
This year we presented four papers:
A major over-arching theme for the conference was the benefit of using a combination of design, policy, and behaviour change techniques to achieve places which are both functional and liveable. Within this, there was an interesting mix of papers covering more traditional, tried and tested approaches, plus those having a more contemporary feel with reference to, for example, Twitter, digital tools, and autonomous vehicles.
In fact, our own papers reflect this mix and our experience which suggests that successful transport interventions need to make best use of both approaches rather than be overly focused on either what has worked in the past or what looks exciting and futuristic.
