At Steer, we embraced the challenge of capturing and analysing vehicle operating speeds in Puerto Varas, a city experiencing continuous growth. This analysis covered key traffic periods: morning peak, off-peak, evening peak, and free-flow speeds. It forms an integral part of the project "Urban Transport System Update for the City of Puerto Varas," which is currently under development.
To carry out this task, we deployed our innovative internal tool, designed to leverage travel time data obtained via Google. The modelling network covers approximately 900 links, providing a solid measurement foundation. With this technology, we carefully scheduled the data collection days and times over three separate days, minimising the impact of unforeseen incidents that might affect the results.
After data collection, our team focused on consolidating and cleaning the information, accurately determining the operating speeds on each network segment for the different analysis periods. This meticulous work has generated essential information for the client, which will be key in constructing and calibrating the ongoing transport model.
Thanks to this work, we continue to support the development of more efficient and sustainable mobility solutions for cities like Puerto Varas, driving a more connected and accessible urban future.
